There should be a saying: “If it exists, it is collectible.” Collecting must be one of the most basic human instincts. From the time we’re young (just empty out a child’s pockets after a walk) and throughout our lives we like to collect things.
As you’ll see in this month’s cover story, Costco members are no exception. And, with more than 15 million Connection readers, and a national average of six out of 10 people who consider themselves collectors, the number and variety of Costco collectors and collections are pretty amazing.
Because we couldn’t feature them all, here’s a list of what we discovered Costco members collect: advertising, art, ashtrays, banks, baseball cards, beer mugs, bells, belts, belt buckles, books, bookmarks, bottles, bottle caps, buttons, cameras, cans, cars, cats, circus artifacts, coffee mugs, coins, cookie jars, dolls, flamingos, flashlights, frogs, geckos, globes, guitars, heirlooms, honeypots, jam jars, jerseys, keychains, keys, lava lamps, license plates, lighters, magnets, manuscripts, masks, matchbooks, mousetraps, movies, mushrooms, Nativity scenes, nutcrackers, owls, padlocks, Pez dispensers, phonographs, photographs, Pillsbury Doughboys, pins, posters, pottery, rocks, roosters, salt and pepper shakers, Santas, sculptures, seashells, shotglasses, snails, stamps, stones, ticket stubs, toys, watches, whistles—whew!
Elsewhere in this month’s issue, you’ll find lots of collections of information: advice on all-season tires, how to prepare for your first electric vehicle, tips on determining what you might need for a home security system, great food ideas and recipes, and articles on best oral-care practices and steps you should take to prevent or treat shingles.
Finally, from our team here at the Connection to all of you who participated in this issue’s cover story, a collective “Thank you!”
