Great outdoors

January is National Family Fit Lifestyle Month, and what better way to celebrate than to get outside and enjoy all that winter has to offer? From snowshoes and sleds to workout gear to healthful foods and more, don’t forget that Costco warehouses and Costco.com have everything to help you and your family get fit this season and beyond.

Get out there

Try incorporating family activities into your winter routine to make this your healthiest month yet; here are a few suggestions:

  • Sledding. Get your blood moving while climbing hills. You’ll have so much fun you won’t even remember you’re exercising!
  • Winter walks. Take in the beauty of nature at your local park or hiking trail.
  • Preparing healthful meals. Shop for seasonal fruits and vegetables as a family, and see what healthful meals you can whip up.

Sweet vacation highlight

When Costco member Joan Azarian’s three grandchildren (left to right: Stella Rose, Valentina and Romeo) visited her from Nice, France, their weekly Costco shopping excursions quickly became a highlight. In fact, all three kids agreed that the best part of their vacation was the strawberry and chocolate sundaes they enjoyed on the drive back to Grandma’s home. How sweet!

FITNESS TIPS

Training from home

New Year’s resolutions routinely include working out more. Fitness instructor and Costco member Ali Aguirre, who is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, and teaches remotely on Fitnessali.com, offers the following tips for getting the most out of a session:

  • Find a quiet space.
  • Set devices on “Do not disturb” mode.
  • Stay focused for the whole class.
  • Keep your camera on for accountability.
  • Use the camera as a mirror (this also allows the instructor to give feedback).
  • Stream the class on your TV.

FUN IN THE SUN

Driven to compete

In October 2022, Costco member Jill Ciminillo of Chicago and co-driver Kristin Shaw of Austin, Texas—both automotive journalists—completed the 2022 Rebelle Rally, an all-female off-road endurance driving competition sponsored by Pirelli North America.

At the Rebelle Rally, 54 teams covered more than 1,500 grueling miles through Nevada and California, covering a wide range of terrains, altitudes and temperatures while using only maps and a compass—no GPS. “[It was] eight nights of sleeping in tents and navigating our way across the desert for 10 or more hours a day,” says Ciminillo. “We got lost, we had to dig out of sand, we got up at 5 ... every morning. I learned to do things most people never will, and I feel so much more independent and capable.”
