A backyard party, properly pulled off, is a thing of beauty. All the elements—food, music, activities and ambience—fall into place. Conversation flows. Children are playing games. Everyone seems to be thoroughly enjoying themselves.
I have some friends who are just naturals at hosting. Their ability to put together the perfect get-together always seems effortless. For most of us, however? Not so much. This is why, as we enter the summer season of outdoor entertaining—with July Fourth as the traditional kickoff for many—the Connection turned to some experts to provide advice. Whether you are hosting a small party or a larger event, you’ll find tips for everything from planning to games and activities to food and more. And the recipes featured in our For Your Table and Farm to Table sections will provide additional ideas for a wide variety of salads, including some for people who like to mix a little meat protein in with their greens.
Costco, of course, is right there to help supply you with just about everything you need.
Then we need to take it indoors for a moment because, unless you’re one of those lucky kids running around at the party, summer still means job-related issues. This month’s For Your Home section looks at the ongoing evolution of the work-from-home hybrid, with information that can help make remote work from a home office as efficient and organized as possible. Suggestions from Costco’s buying teams also address home-office needs, as well as other rooms in your home, such as dining and living rooms, and we provide tips on creating a mudroom (all of which will come in handy in the fall, when you host an indoor party!)
However you celebrate it, we wish you a happy and safe Fourth of July!
