Member making a difference
For the past seven years, Turquoise Parker, a teacher in Durham, North Carolina, has—along with more than 600 volunteers and donors—made sure none of her students go hungry when school is out. This past winter break they raised a record $103,079.70 and fulfilled their largest order to date. Working with the Costco warehouse in Durham, employees and volunteers filled a tractor trailer with enough food to benefit thousands of students and their families. “This is amazing and leaves you speechless,” Parker says. “... I am grateful knowing [students’] families have what they need.” Her organization is now working to ensure students have food during spring break.
