In 1944, Lily Ebert promised herself that if she survived World War II, she would share her story with the world. Nearly 80 years later she wrote her memoir, Lily’s Promise, with her great-grandson, Dov Forman—and the two have become TikTok stars along the way.

Lily Ebert I always wanted to pay tribute to my family and the millions of others who have nobody to remember them.

CC Tell me about the content of your TikTok videos?

Dov Forman Our message of hope is: Never, ever give up. Be tolerant to each other and remember nobody is better or worse than you; we are only different. Appreciate that.

CC What would you like readers to know about your great-grandmother?

DF My friends would come around to play [soccer], and Lily would come into the circle and kick the ball back to us. Her superpower is to be a force for good. As we enter the next generation of Holocaust education, social media will be a powerful platform for education and change.
