Costco Connection What inspired this particular story?
Jojo Moyes This novel actually came from a very short story I wrote more than a decade ago about a downtrodden woman who picks up someone else’s gym bag and changes her life. I found myself wondering what happened to the woman who lost her gym bag–and suddenly I knew I had a whole new story.

CC Do you have a favorite between Nisha and Sam? If so, who and why?
JM I know she behaves terribly, but I think it’s Nisha. She’s like the [rebel] version of myself that I could never be. I enjoyed writing someone who turns everything outwards instead of worrying that it’s all her own fault in some way.

CC What else would you like to say?
JM I wrote this book because, like everyone, I have had such a tough few years, and I found I wanted to read or watch stories that made me laugh, or feel uplifted, and be removed from normal life for a while. I hope [readers] enjoy it!
