To celebrate the Lunar New Year, Château Margaux created a special, limited edition case consisting of 3 vintages from the 3 Years of the Dragon in the Chinese Zodiac: 1988, 2000, and 2012. These 3 bottles have come straight out of the cellars of the château, with perfect provenance, and packaged in a custom-designed wood box.
Chateau Margaux is one of the most famous wine estates in the world, located in the Médoc region of Bordeaux, France. It was one of the five estates that achieved Premier Cru status in the Bordeaux Classification of 1855, which means it produces some of the finest wines in the region. Chateau Margaux produces three main labels from its vineyards; all 3 of which are represented in the following special edition collection set. The Chateau Margaux vineyard owes its unique character to its rare terroir, situated upon an outcropping of gravel. The vineyard of the property gives pride of place to the area's flagship red grape, Cabernet Sauvignon, which is complemented by Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The clay-limestone soils of the estate produce legendary wines with a distinguished and sensual allure, so representative of the Margaux appellation.
Their “Grand Vin” simply called “Chateau Margaux” is the flagship wine of the estate, made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot grapes. It is aged for 18 to 24 months in new oak barrels and has a complex and elegant bouquet of black fruits, spices, cedar and violets. It can age for decades and is considered one of the best wines in the world.

"Tasted blind, the 2000 Chateau Margaux was a reminder of the peaks that the millennial vintage could reach. Noticeably deep in color, the bouquet rivets you to the seat with copious red berry fruit, clove and truffle, hints of cedar emerging with time. As the aromatics open and aerate, the fruit profile seems to darken and manifests blackcurrants and bilberries. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannin. There is immense depth and symmetry conveyed by this First Growth, quite masculine for the estate with a gentle but insistent grip. It is a brilliant wine that flirts with perfection. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, crisp acidity, a life-affirming sense of balance with well-integrated new oak towards the finish. I concur with Robert Parker that his has become more structured and masculine in bottle, yet there is pedigree here from start to finish, a sense of effortlessness that is seductive.
