Watering
- Place the planter outside.
- Water the planter once thoroughly; the soil needs to be moist but not wet.
- If there is a chance for really cold temperature 14° F/-10° C, place the planter in a sheltered location (under your deck or against the house) where it is protected.
- During the winter water the planter only once a month (or let nature take care of itself, if it is exposed to rain or snow).
- At the end of the winter place your planter on your deck or patio, preferably where you can see the planter from inside the house.
- When green shoots emerge start watering more regularly (keep the soil moist, but not wet).
- This planter has 4 layers of bulbs and will flower for a long time.
- Water as needed during active growth periods.
- Fertilize just before they start blooming.
- Remove the flowers when they are spent. Cut off the flower stems near the top of the bulb, leaving the foliage to continue growing.
Once the planter has experienced 10 weeks of cold temperatures (less than 45), you can also bring the planter inside for extra-early blooms and to bring colorful blooms and spring fragrance inside. While every effort has been made to describe these plants accurately, please note that height, bloom time, and color may differ in various climates.
Restrictions
Fall planted flower bulbs require a chilling period. If your area does not experience sustained cold temperatures (USDA Hardiness zones 3-8), the bulbs will not bloom.
